Relaxed screenings in a calm, welcoming environment
The typical cinema environment can be stressful for guests with autism, sensory difficulties or learning impairments. Our Autism-Friendly Screenings at The Island Cinema (also known as relaxed or sensory-friendly) are specially adapted to make the cinema experience more accessible and enjoyable for autistic guests and others with sensory sensitivities.
What to expect:
● Lower sound levels
● Lights left on low throughout the film
● Freedom to move around, make noise, or take a break
● No trailers or adverts before the film
● One of the main doors to the screen is left open for easy access throughout the film.
● Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere
These screenings are open to anyone who finds traditional cinema environments challenging — including those with autism, learning disabilities, or sensory sensitivities — along with their families, friends, or carers. Carers MUST attend and must be in attendance throughout the film.
